10 Signs Your Social Media Is All Noise, No Leads
Last updated: 28 August 2026
Social media can eat hours a week and still not produce a single enquiry. Here are ten signs your activity is noise rather than a lead source, with a straightforward fix for each. Most businesses recognise themselves in at least three.
1. Every post is about you, never about the customer
A feed full of "we're delighted to announce" posts talks at people, not to them. Customers scroll past company news, they stop for content that answers their own question or problem. This is a Positioning issue as much as a content one.
Fix: For every company-news post, publish two that solve a problem, answer a question, or show a real result.
2. There's no clear way to actually enquire
A bio with no link, no phone number, and no clear next step means an interested follower has nowhere to go. Every piece of content should have somewhere for a warm reader to land, the whole point of Lead Generation.
Fix: Put a working link in every platform's bio and mention it explicitly in captions that invite action.
3. You're posting on platforms your customers aren't on
Being active everywhere at a mediocre level beats nobody being on the one or two platforms your actual customers use well. Chasing every platform spreads effort too thin to build momentum anywhere, a classic positioning mistake.
Fix: Pick the two platforms where your actual customers spend time and go deeper there before adding a third.
4. Comments and DMs go unanswered for days
A question in the comments or a DM is a warmer lead than almost anything else you'll get from social media, and it goes cold fast. Slow replies quietly kill conversions that were otherwise ready to happen, a CRM habit hiding inside a social media problem.
Fix: Check and reply to comments and DMs within a few hours during business hours, not once a week.
5. There's no consistent posting rhythm
A burst of ten posts followed by three weeks of silence reads as inconsistent to both the algorithm and to people deciding whether you're still trading. Steady and modest beats sporadic and intense, one of the core ideas behind the Algorithms pillar.
Fix: Commit to a realistic, sustainable posting schedule, even twice a week, and stick to it longer than a burst of enthusiasm.
6. You're not tracking which posts actually drive enquiries
Follower count and likes feel good but don't pay the bills. Without tracking which specific posts lead to a DM, a click, or a booking, you're guessing at what to make more of. This is exactly what Test & Measure exists to fix.
Fix: Tag or note which posts generated a genuine enquiry each month and double down on that format.
7. Every post looks and sounds like it was written by a different person
Inconsistent tone and visuals make a business feel smaller and less trustworthy than it is, even when the work behind it is excellent. Brand recognition builds from repetition, part of the Brand pillar, not variety for its own sake.
Fix: Write down three tone-of-voice rules and a simple visual template, and hold every post to them.
8. There's no video content at all
Video consistently outperforms static posts for reach on every major platform right now, and a short, unpolished video of real work often beats a slick graphic. Skipping it entirely leaves reach on the table, a gap worth closing within Social Media.
Fix: Post one short video a week, even a 30-second phone clip of work in progress.
9. You're not reusing your best-performing content
A post that performed well once will usually perform well again months later, especially to the large share of your audience who never saw it the first time. Treating every post as disposable wastes your best material, keep an eye on what's trending to help decide what's worth another run.
Fix: Rework and repost your best three performers from the last six months, refreshed with a new caption or format.
10. Influencer or partner content isn't tracked for actual results
A partnership or influencer post can look great without ever being checked against enquiries or sales. Vanity metrics from a partner post are the easiest number in Influencer Marketing to be misled by.
Fix: Give every partner or influencer post its own trackable link or discount code so results are visible, not assumed.
